Description

Award medal from the 1895 Cotton States & International Exposition that was held at, what is now Piedmont Park, in Atlanta, Georgia.  1,573 medal were awarded for the exposition, 634 were gold, 444 silver and 495 were bronze.  This medal is bronze, it is 2 1/4 inches in diameter and in a high grade circulated condition.  Philip Martiny was the medalist and the Gorham company struck the medal.  The obverse shows the allegorical figure of Columbia holding a cornucopia with an angel holding a tablet labeled INDUSTRY at her feet & exposition building is in the background.  At the rim it reads ATLANTA-GEORGIA - U.S.A..  The reverse reads in the center COTTON STATES - AND INTERNATIONAL - EXPOSITION - AWARD TO - engraved JENKINS, KREER & CO - ATLANTA - GEORGIA - U.S.A. - MDCCCXCV.  The reverse shows an eagle at the top with branches to the left and right rims.
